Jessica Mendoza, from Wiltshire, is one of only six British riders to be selected for the 12 teams who will be competing for a new-concept team event – the Global Champions League (GCL).

Jessica joins a star-studded list of athletes making up the teams for this new League which heralds the start of a new era in show jumping and kicks off tomorrow (running 7-10 April) in Miami Beach, USA, before moving on to Mexico (15-17 April).

Riders from different countries will be united on multi-national teams like never before and Jessica will be joining Britain’s top rider, Scott Brash (World No 2) on the “Miami Glory” team which also features Kent Farrington (USA; World No. 3), Georgina Bloomberg (USA, daughter of former Mayor of New York, Michael Bloomberg) and Kimberley Prince (USA).

2016 is set to be a highly exciting year for Jessica Mendoza (who turns 20 this Saturday – 9 April) as she also has her sights set on team selection for The Rio Olympics in August. Her next British team appearance will be aboard Spirit T in the CSIO 5* FEI Furusiyya Nations Cup in Lummen, Belgium. Jessica is currently the 6th top Brit in the World rankings (ranked 62) and stands at 48 in the Longines Global Tour rankings*

“I’m really looking forward to the new Global teams league. It’s a brilliant idea and it’s going to be a lot for fun this year;” commented Jessica on her latest news.

Other British riders participating in the League are: Ben Maher and Alexandra Thornton (“Shanghai Swans”), John Whitaker (“Valkenswaard United”) and Laura Renwick (“Rome Gladiators”)

Two riders, from each of the 12 teams, will be selected to compete at each event on the Longines Global Champions Tour circuit which visits the most glamorous destinations in the world as the teams compete for a share of the GCL €7.5 million prize money.
