Andrew Baldock

Press Association reporter Andrew Baldock was named the British Equestrian Federation Outstanding Journalist of the Year 2015. Baldock, has worked at PA  since 1996 and is also the national news agency’s rugby union correspondent, has been covering the sport since 2008.

The award is presented annually to recognise the journalist who has made the biggest positive contribution to equestrian sport coverage over the year. Baldock said: “I am hugely honoured and grateful to be recognised in this way by equestrian sport’s governing body in this country. For a journalist, covering the sport is so rewarding, given the many great stories that are there to be told across a broad spectrum of riders, owners, coaches and administrators. ”

My personal highlight has to be London 2012 – both the Olympics and Paralympics – and particularly the Great Britain showjumping team’s brilliant gold medal jump-off victory at Greenwich Park, which was pure sporting theatre, while interviewing wonderful talents and ambassadors for their sport such as William Fox-Pitt, Charlotte Dujardin, Carl Hester, Scott Brash and Ben Maher is always a rewarding experience.”

Press Association sports editor Ashley Broadley said: “This is a fantastic tribute to Andrew for all his hard work covering the sport over the last seven years. It is a great example of someone who has built relationships and trust with the riders and their support teams to help cover a sport and break exclusive stories.”
