The most important date in the national hunt calendar is almost upon us the Cheltenham Festival 2016 opens the floodgates to its tide of vast supporters Tuesday 15th March.
To many it is the pinnacle of the jump season and highlights everything that makes this such a time honoured sporting occasion. It delivers a thrilling occasion as the best of the best – horses, jockeys, owners and trainers turn out to battle for some of racings finest honours. With over £4.1 million in prize money it’s hardly surprising.
With its presence as ever eagerly awaited what makes around 250,000 avid supporters fork out for an tremendously expensive ticket to stand on freezing cold wind swept hill?
Walk into this hallowed ground and you can find legends cast in bronze around the enclosures, from Best Mate and Ankle to Dawn Run and Golden Miller – great selfie opportunity.
Holder of a Club or Tattersall ticket? then take the opportunity to visit the might Trophy Room.
But for many of us mere mortals – provided you are the lucky holder of a Club or Tattersall ticket – our Cheltenham visit wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the free flowing Guiness Village, enjoy the live music and continue your celebrations or commiserations.
Free Jockey Club WiFi – is the Cheltenham Festival first past the post in providing a successful wifi service? – if so it would indeed be a first and I’m impressed, I for one will congratulate them!
Not to be left off the list the ever encompassing Shopping Village – for all long suffering husbands – stop complaining you have bars in abundance – just hand over your card and your wife will pick you up (off the floor) when she’s finished.
I have to say on a personal note the Moet bar did it for me last year – and of course picking the Gold Cup winner – rank outsider…..every cloud….
What makes the Cheltenham Festival special for you?
